LYNNE ALLEN Create unique monotypes,
using both positive techniques -- working in a painterly fashion or
using brayers -- and reductive techniques, where ink is removed either
with rags, Q-tips, pointed objects or even your fingers! We will use
a variety of substrates, and will also explore monoprints, where a matrix
can be reused (such as linoleum or woodcut) to make a varied edition.
This printmaking technique allows considerable freedom in approach,
from painterly and expressive gestures, to linear, hard-edge markings.
For those interested, chine collé as a color element can be incorporated
as well as trace-monotype techniques (after inking a surface, paper
is placed on top and using a pen, stick or any other stylus, the image
is drawn on the back of the paper and ink is transferred due to the
pressure of the pen). All these techniques can be combined to create
unique, layered and vibrant prints.
